Dear Neighbors,

Today is a big day in Fairbanks. It’s Primary Election Day, and it’s the first day of school! To all the students, parents, teachers, support staff and stakeholders, I wish you a successful school year. To everyone who has not yet voted in the ‘pick one’ primary, I encourage you to do so before 8:00 pm tonight.

It’s Election Day… Time to Make Your Voice Heard!

Today is the first of three elections that Fairbanksans will get to vote in this fall. Today’s ballot includes the primary elections for the U.S. Senate Race, the U.S. House Race, the Governor’s Race, State Senate Races and State House Races. While there is no State Senate Election in our district (District P) this year both House District 31, and House District 32 have elections.

In addition to voting for candidates from the top to the bottom of the ticket, there will be one ballot measure that Alaskans will have an opportunity to vote on. Ballot Measure 1 will restore political contribution limits in our elections. In this year’s Governors election especially, we have seen many high-dollar donors in some cases donating over $100,000 per candidate. Ballot Measure 1 will establish an individual-to-candidate donation limit of $2000 per election cycle. As the sponsor of the identical bill in the Legislature – SB 116 – I encourage you to vote for Ballot Measure 1!

Whoever you choose to vote for, it’s important to do so by 8:00 pm today! If you have an absentee by-mail ballot, please get it in the mail ASAP to ensure that it gets post marked today. You can also drop your by-mail ballot off at any polling place, or the Division of Elections Office downtown at 675 7th Avenue to ensure it is received on time.

You are also more than welcome to vote in person at your polling place. You can use this interactive polling place map from the Division of Elections to find out where to vote. Here is the list of polling places in Senate District P:

31-446 Aurora: Tanana Valley State Fair George Gasser Hall, 1800 College Road.
