Hi there,
This November, Swing Left is going all in on statewide races—and Wisconsin
is one of the places where we’re focusing our efforts.
Democratic Governor Tony Evers is not seeking re-election, and David
Crowley has won the Democratic nomination to keep this critical swing
state governorship blue. He’ll face Republican Tom Tiffany this November,
who has been in lockstep with Donald Trump in Congress and even backed his
efforts to throw out the results of the 2020 election.
Wisconsin’s governor has veto power over the legislative maps that will
shape the state’s political map for the next decade, which means that
holding this seat is essential to keeping Republicans from drawing
themselves a structural advantage before 2028.
But holding the governor’s office is just one part of the plan.
Democrats haven’t held a majority in either the State Senate or State
Assembly since the Republican landslide in the 2010 midterm election.
Republican legislators then used their majorities to implement what some
experts called “the most gerrymandered maps in the country”, ensuring
Republican control of the state legislature for years. But the Wisconsin
Supreme Court struck down those maps, and in 2024, new, fairer state
legislative maps were passed, meaning Democrats have a meaningful chance
to win back control.
Democrats are just one governor’s race, two State Senate seats, and five
State Assembly seats away from winning a trifecta for the first time since
Republicans first took over in 2011, and together, we can help make it
happen.

State legislative control also provides an essential governing anchor
should Democrats lose the governor’s race. Flipping one or both chambers
would allow Democrats to block conservative overreach, protect hard-won
progress, and ensure Republicans cannot govern unchecked.
