Folks, we need to talk about the birds and the bees.

Not that talk. I mean the actual birds. The actual bees.

Here's what's happening to them while Washington argues about ballrooms and reflecting pools:

* Two-thirds of North America’s bird species are at risk of extinction as the planet warms.

* Extreme heat is sending bumblebees spiraling towards extinction.

* Commercial beekeepers have been reporting some of the worst colony losses on record.

Climate change isn't just making things hotter . It's disrupting the systems that make life possible. Our seasons, our export crops, and our food supply, just to name a few.

Meanwhile, my Republican colleagues are gutting the EPA to enrich their friends in the fossil fuel industry and calling it a win.

I've been fighting this fight since 2000. First, in the business world as a clean energy entrepreneur, and now on Capitol Hill as a Climate Hawk and the DCCC’s Climate Chair.

I still believe that America can meet this challenge head-on, but the first step towards solving a problem is admitting there IS one. That’s something our current House majority refuses to do.

If we’re going to get serious about climate change, we need to elect serious people.

The birds and the bees can't vote. They can't testify at a markup. They can't donate to the campaign of the guy trying to save them. Believe me, I've checked.

It's on us, and we are running out of time.
