When Davi the pangolin was rescued from a wildlife trafficking operation in Indonesia, no one knew she was pregnant. She was poached from the wild and would have been slaughtered and sold for her scales and meat. But this time the trafficking chain was interrupted.
Pangolins are the most trafficked mammals in the world and are on the brink of extinction. To wildlife traffickers, that doesn’t matter—they are just another commodity with a high price tag.
Thanks to our partnership with Jakarta Animal Aid Network (JAAN) and local authorities, a months-long investigation led to Davi’s rescue, the seizure of over 100 pounds of pangolin scales, and the apprehension of the traffickers.
Since we launched our Pangolin Protection Initiative with JAAN in late 2025, 17 live pangolins have been rescued from poachers and wildlife traffickers, helping to disrupt trafficking networks from the inside out!
