Dear Law Students,

Student Chapter Program Guide

Each year, the Animal Legal Defense Fund provides resources to help its student chapters focus on a specific priority issue. The Student Chapter Program Guide contains an overview of the issue and suggested activities. This year’s priority issue is Organizing for Animals in the Digital Age.

Student Chapter Kick-off Event

Welcome to a new—though somewhat different—academic year! Join us and your peers from other law schools across the country for the Animal Legal Defense Fund Student Chapter Kickoff – an online event exclusively for law students. We’ll introduce you to the Animal Law Program team, preview resources to get your chapter started advocating for animals in this new online environment, and, along with Alicia Prygoski, Animal Legal Defense Fund Legislative Affairs Manager, discuss federal legislative updates and how chapters can get involved in assisting with legislative efforts that support animal protection. This will be an interactive event, with surprises throughout, and we encourage chapters to watch together (remotely!) as part of an online watch party. We look forward to having you join us!

Student Chapter of the Year Awards

Submit your chapter for consideration for our eighth annual Student Chapter of the Year Awards! The awards celebrate student chapters that have shown amazing efforts in advancing the field of animal law and are awarded at the Animal Legal Defense Fund Student Convention. Submissions are due September 14.

Emergency Response Scholarships

The Animal Legal Defense Fund is currently accepting applications for its Emergency Response Scholarships. We recognize that law students now face unique and additional stressors during the COVID-19 pandemic, including financial stress that might increase barriers to continuing in law school. The Animal Legal Defense Fund Emergency Response Scholarships are available to Animal Legal Defense Fund student chapter members who have shown a commitment to protecting the lives and advancing the interests of animals through their chapter and are experiencing a financial hardship due to world events. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Animal Legal Defense Fund Litigation Fellowship applications are due September 8!

Officer Update

If your chapter has elected its board for next school year, please submit your update so we can get in touch with the new board and let them know about our resources and opportunities for chapters.
