The Trump administration has just declared a new enemy: the International Criminal Court. In an effort to bully the court to not investigate U.S. war crimes in Afghanistan or prosecute Israeli war crimes in Gaza and the West Bank, sanctions are being placed on two ICC officials, chief prosecutor Fatou Bensouda and her colleague, Attorney Phakiso Mochochoko. 



Add your name to our letter to Bensouda apologizing for the vile actions of the Trump administration <[link removed]> against her and Mochochoko. Let these brave lawyers know how much we appreciate their work to investigate global crimes and hold countries, including the U.S. and Israel, accountable.



Pompeo said when announcing the sanctions that he’s “gravely concerned about the threat the [ICC] court poses to Israel.” The announcement of the sanctions against Bensouda and Mochochoko come only one month after Pompeo promised to “exact consequences” against the ICC if it moves forward with the Palestinian Authority’s case to hold Israel accountable for war crimes committed during the 2014 war on Gaza and the building of illegal settlements on stolen Palestinian land. 



Like Israel’s war on the Palestinians, the U.S. intervention in Afghanistan has been a dark period for which the perpetrators must be held to account. Few people deny the likelihood that U.S. troops committed war crimes in Afghanistan, ranging from the bombing of civilians to the torture of detainees. It’s the International Criminal Court’s right to investigate war crimes and abuses of power — regardless of whether or not it reflects well on the U.S. Sign our letter of apology to Bensouda! <[link removed]>



Sanctions are one of the U.S. government's favorite forms of punishment. The sanctions on Bensouda and Mochochoko will block them from accessing any funds they have in the U.S. and forbid them from financial dealings with “U.S. persons”, including banks. What a shameful attempt to stop the ICC from doing its job! 



It’s a crime against justice for the Trump administration to impede ICC investigations. It’s also grossly unjust and inappropriate for the U.S. to sanction individuals, punishing them for doing the good work they do for the people of the world. 



Join us in telling Bensouda that we appreciate her work to investigate U.S. and Israeli war crimes and that we demand that the sanctions against her and Mochochoko be reversed.
