This election season is unlike any other. From the unprecedented pandemic to the mass protest movement for racial justice and Trump’s increasingly authoritarian behavior, there are a lot of factors that are constantly shifting the balance of elections. Recently, three Senate races considered out of the question in January moved firmly within reach.

Senate races in Alaska, Kansas, and South Carolina are typically safe Republican seats, but as Trump flounders, we’re seeing the same thing we saw in ‘18—the “edges” of the map are moving to the center. This is our chance to flip the Senate.

The polls are encouraging, but Republicans will spend millions to maintain their power. We have to keep up the momentum, and that means funneling grassroots dollars into the races that need them most.

In Alaska, it means supporting Al Gross, an orthopedic surgeon and commercial fisherman who is taking on Republican incumbent Dan Sullivan.

In Kansas, it means helping Barbara Bollier, a physician and state senator, win her open seat race against Republican Congressman Robert Marshall, who votes with Trump 98 percent of the time.

And in South Carolina, it means supporting Democratic rising star Jamie Harrison’s bid against Trump-critic turned Trump-enabler and Brett-Kavanaugh-defender Lindsay Graham.

Funding these races will keep Republicans on the defensive as they struggle to retain their Senate majority. We’ll also help build critical Democratic infrastructure for future campaigns in these states. This investment is critical to transforming our government and ensuring that an authoritarian menace like Trump never wields unchecked power like this again.
