John, I’m proud of my record in the Texas Senate.

I wrote and passed the bill that got health insurance for 350,000 uninsured Texans, strengthened backup power for essential services when the grid fails, and reined in corporate abuse of tax incentives, and solved problems that actually affect people’s lives.

Not every vote I’ve taken has been easy or politically convenient — I don’t wait for donors or a think tank to tell me how to vote. I look at the facts, read the law, consider the consequences, and exercise my judgment.

That’s what the job requires.

My opponent, Mayes Middleton, has repeatedly fallen in line with his party, even when the result means interfering with competitive markets or tying the hands of our state for generations.

He even caved to party line pressure to cast 16 votes to acquit Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton of corruption and abuse of office, despite the unequivocal and overwhelming evidence that Paxton had abused the power of the Attorney General’s office to help friends, donors, and allies.

And he wants to be the Attorney General?

The Texas Attorney General isn’t supposed to take orders from a political party, or a president, or the powerful interests that helped build his career. The job requires judgment, independence, and a commitment to the rule of law and to making things work.

Mayes Middleton has shown what kind of Attorney General he would be.
