** "Lawlessness", anti-Semitism and Aliyah
4 September 2020
------------------------------------------------------------

A weekly reflection on current global affairs concerning Israel and
the Jewish people from a Biblical perspective.

The number of Jews returning to Israel from the Americas is on the increase, and this appears to be connected to a rise in anti-Semitism, which itself has many causes. One of them, arguably, is a break-down of law and order in some countries.

The US is perhaps the most obvious example, where the wave of violence in recent months has led to a rise in anti-Semitic incidents. There is a debate about whether this anti-Semitism is caused by the right wing racism, or left-wing liberalism. Jonathan Tobin argues that the root cause of the unrest and accompanying anti-Semitism is not racism, as some claim, but the “breakdown of the rule of law” instigated by those who promote and even incite violence to tear down existing structures. In Biblical terms, we would refer to this as “lawlessness”.

There is also a rise in anti-Semitism in Latin America. According to The Jewish Agency, “the Corona pandemic has deeply shocked all of Mexico and the Jewish community is suffering from a double blow – not only are most Jewish households suffering economically, with many Jewish businesses seeing a decrease of 70% in their income – but they are also the increasing target for abduction and anti-Semitic threats.” The Jewish Agency has reported that from the beginning of 2020 through July, it has facilitated the Aliyah of 2,269 olim from Latin America compared with 1,839 during the same period last year, an increase of 23.3 percent. For Mexico in particular, The Jewish Agency has opened 493 Aliyah cases since January, an increase of 32 percent from last year.

Whatever the cause of anti-Semitism, the overall result is an increase of immigration into Israel. According to Chairman of The Jewish Agency Isaac Herzog, “today we’re seeing the beginning of a wave of immigrants to the State of Israel that will absorb about a quarter of a million new immigrants over the next five years, including young people, academics, entrepreneurs and professionals. This will be a diverse Aliyah from around the world that can also help spur economic growth.”

Anti-Semitism in the US: who should Jews fear most during an ‘uprising’?

By Jonathan Tobin: “It must be pointed out that the main threat to Jews and to Americans in general from recent events is not an epidemic of racist violence for which there is little or no proof or from the president. The real danger comes from the breakdown of the rule of law that those who lionized the riots and gave the movement that fueled them impunity have engendered… A country in which both lives and property rights are not respected—and where law enforcement is so cowed by its critics that no one at risk from rioters has any reasonable expectation of police protection—is not one that is safe for Jews or anyone else.” Read more.. The rise of anti-Semitism in Mexico

The Jewish Agency reports that the Corona pandemic has deeply shocked all of Mexico and the Jewish community is suffering from a double blow – not only are most Jewish households suffering economically, with many Jewish businesses seeing a decrease of 70% in their income – but they are also the increasing target for abduction and anti-Semitic threats. Lawlessness in the end times

Rev. Willem J. Glashouwer writes: “Living in the End times means that the truth of Revelation 22:11 becomes more and more visible: “Let the one who does wrong continue to do wrong; let the vile person continue to be vile; let the one who does right continue to do right; and let the holy person continue to be holy.” Ezekiel 3:27 says “But when I speak to you, I will open your mouth and you shall say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says.’ Whoever will listen let them listen, and whoever will refuse let them refuse; for they are a rebellious people.” And Daniel 12:10 “Many will be purified, made spotless and refined, but the wicked will continue to be wicked. None of the wicked will understand, but those who are wise will understand.” Read more.. ([link removed])

Hatred towards Israel

What is the root cause of anti-Semitism (hatred of the Jewish people)? The Church bears a huge responsibility for the anti-Semitism we witness in the world today. To our shame, Satan has used the Church in his attempt to destroy the Jewish People.

** SCRIPTURE FOR THE WEEK:
------------------------------------------------------------

** 2 Timothy 3: 1-5 and 16-17
------------------------------------------------------------

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.^2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, ^3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good,^4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— ^5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.

^16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, ^17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
