Global Poverty and its Colonial Roots: 

a re-Education

The Black Lives Matter movement in the UK has re-ignited calls to teach the truth about the damage done by British colonialism, and its legacy today. A petition calling for the government to make the UK's colonial past a compulsory part of the curriculum has now gained over 264,000 signatures.

It's time we take matters into our own hands. Health Poverty Action has been working with teachers, activists, academics and students to create a 90-minute lesson plan for sixth formers (Key Stage 5)- ‘Global Poverty & its Colonial Roots: A Re-Education’.

Even if you don’t work at a school, help us bring the truth to classrooms across the UK by forwarding this email to friends and family who might be interested. You can help us spread the word on social media by sharing our posts on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram. And you can even write to your old school or your local one to let them know about the lesson and ask them to teach it.  

 The lesson pack includes:

• A captivating leaflet about the lesson for students

This week, we’ve also launched a new social media challenge to mark the launch of the lesson: the #ReEducationChallenge. All you have to do is post a picture of a book or person who has changed the way you think about the world, tag us and use the #ReEducationChallenge hashtag.
