Agreement announced for Robin Hood Energy customers to transfer to British Gas

Over the last six months the Council has been conducting a strategic review looking at a range of options for the future Robin Hood Energy.

Though significant improvements have been made in the financial performance of the business under the new management team the Council appointed last year, the conclusion of the review is that a saleis the right option and an agreement has been made for RHE customers to transfer to British Gas. It is important to note that customers do not need to take any action and will be contacted in the coming weeks with more details. No customers will be worse-off as a result of the transfer.

It provides the best possible deal for the Council and city residents and reassurance to customers that they are transferring to a large, well established company. We know this is a very sad day for the business and its employees who have played a part in creating a more dynamic and customer orientated market for all energy consumers. We will be doing all that we can through our Jobs Hub to support those who will be losing their jobs at RHE into new employment.

The Council originally set up Robin Hood Energy back in 2015 in response to the level of fuel poverty in the city. Since then the energy market has changed considerably over the last few years. At its peak there have been over 70 energy suppliers competing to win new customers and the introduction of price caps has fundamentally changed the landscape with many smaller suppliers exiting.

Following 100k of investment Woodthorpe Park now has an enlarged play area with new equipment, including a slide and more swings. Other improvements also include:


* Resurfacing underneath play equipment and around the caf
* New picnic benches
* An enclosed dog free seating areas next to the caf.
* New trail style gym.

Woodthorpe was already a high quality park as one of our many Green Flag Parks in the city. I hope these improvements will make it an even more enjoyable experience for families and residents in the area. *Restoration work for Nottinghams historic buildings*

Nottinghams Heritage Action Zone in partnership with Historic England has awarded grants to make improvements to historic shop fronts in the city, helping improve the condition and appearance of the buildings whilst restoring their historic character. Nearly 2.7 million is being invested in the regeneration of four shops on Market Street and ten on Wheeler Gate which will help improve the attractiveness of the city centre and breathe new life into Nottinghams historic buildings.

We have a proud history in our city and I am glad that we continue to invest in and protect the citys heritage which is important asset to Nottinghams economy.

*Nethergate Academy celebrates expanded SEND provision*

Our vision for Nottingham City is that every child and young person can enjoy their childhood in a supportive environment and grow up to achieve their full potential which is why it is great news Greenwood Academies Trust is today celebrating the completion of a new unit at Nethergate Academy in Clifton. By working with Nethergate Academy and Greenwood Academies Trust on this development, we are taking important steps to improving outcomes for children with special education needs and disabilities and providing them with the opportunities and support to thrive in life. The new 2.2m unit, which expands special educational needs (SEND) provision for Nottingham City pupils, has been funded by Nottingham City Council and will accommodate an additional 48 pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder when the academy reopens on 7th September 2020. The building has six classrooms, a hall, therapy space, life skills room and supplementary spaces.
