Since the Alliance was founded more than a decade ago, one of our foundational principles has always been that gun violence is not inevitable. For decades, the gun lobby banked on voters falling into the trap of feeling like this epidemic was too great to solve.

But here in Washington, since our first ballot measure in 2014, you’ve proven that gun violence is preventable. That when we come together, there are more of us who believe in common-sense measures to save lives than there are of them. But our work isn’t over.

So as Election Day gets closer, we want to reintroduce you to our mission and our time-tested, winning strategy.

Here in Washington, we developed a groundbreaking model of advocacy to prevent gun violence. In the face of two decades of little progress at the national level, we’ve shown that the only way to save the most lives the quickest is by taking state-based action.

But we must protect our progress, now more than ever, in the face of a federal government bent on repealing safeguards and passing laws that enrich wealthy donors in the gun lobby at the expense of our safety. And we need to elect gun safety candidates at every level of government because saving lives takes every level of government working together – from passing laws in the legislature to implementing the policies we pass and programs we fund in cities and counties.
