




	Friend— new polls out of Florida, Michigan, and North Carolina now have Trump gaining ground — putting each state within a few points. If he wins these states it's a serious problem — this is his path to victory. There's a shot at closing these states off to Trump — but we need to respond now. In each state, the data show that environmental voters will make up the margin of victory, but that mail-in-voting is the wildcard. Right now, we're looking at proposals from our campaigns teams to go big on vote-by-mail programs in all three states. The problem: this isn't in the budget — as it stands now, it looks like we don't have the budget to talk to all of the voters we need. We're in the middle of a pandemic that is disproportionately harmful to Black, Latinx and Indigenous communities — and he's using it to dismantle the environmental policies and institutions that protect our children and families. Friend, the environmental movement — and whether we turn out or not — will decide Florida, Michigan, and North Carolina. But it's going to come down to mail ballots and the truth is this: major vote-by-mail campaigns will take resources we don't have right now. There are serious challenges for voters to overcome — lack of pre-paid postage, requirements that ballots be received rather than postmarked by Election Day, and signature match rejections. Right now, this what we're hoping to pull off: Engage 2.5 million voters, including traditional climate voters, young people, and communities of color. Make at least 2 million personal contacts with voters either via in-person canvasses (if possible), or more likely, via "virtual" canvassing with calls and texts. Send 1.7 million pieces of follow-up mail to voters who have yet to return their ballots, using tested and refined messaging techniques to maximize response. Generate more than 33 million impressions via extensive digital programming to help mobilize voters and push turnout through Election Day. We also have a critical opportunity to stop Trump in Florida specifically. Reports say that the Trump administration is setting up offshore drilling plans off Florida's coastline that will only move forward if Trump is re-elected. Environmentally, it's outrageous — but politically it's also incredibly unpopular in Florida. This gives us an opening. We will soon have teams reaching out to voters throughout Florida. We've also hit Trump with local ads on his offshore drilling plan. The early data shows there is a path to victory — but we urgently need to scale up. Friend — this is our shot.
