Last night, I went on Anderson Cooper 360 to address the conditions aboard America’s warships.

In case you didn’t catch the show, here’s what we discussed.

The USS Gerald Ford just returned to Hampton Roads from an extended 11-month deployment, the longest since the Vietnam War. The USS Abraham Lincoln has been at sea for almost 9 months, with no end in sight.

Thousands of families are in limbo, while sailors face grueling conditions onboard: shortages of food and soap, broken showers, facilities in need of maintenance. These Sailors haven’t touched dry land all year.

And when asked, all the president had to say was that: the USS Lincoln's deployment “wasn’t long enough.”

That lack of compassion deeply disturbs me.

As a 20-year Navy veteran, it’s clear to me that the president is severely out of his depth. His threats and bluster have failed to end this conflict that he started.

We need experienced and disciplined leaders in Congress now more than EVER.

I fought for active and retired military every single day during my first two terms in Congress, and I’ll double down when I win a third term this November.

But I expect this toss-up House race to be the most expensive in America, so winning it will require all hands on deck.
