Below is a personal note about why I dedicated my life to serving this country, and why I’m running to flip Virginia’s 2nd District blue.

Before you read it, will you split a donation between my campaign and Blue Amp Action to become one of the first Founding Donors of my General Election campaign? Now that I’m officially the Democratic nominee, every dollar takes us one step closer to winning this seat back in November.

Hi, John, it’s former Congresswoman Elaine Luria. I just won my primary to become the official Democratic nominee for Virginia’s 2nd District.

Before we take this fight to November, I want to share a little bit about my story and my values, and explain why I’m running for Congress.

I grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, and joined the Navy when I was just 17 years old.

My lifelong knack for STEM subjects led me to become one of the first female nuclear engineers in Navy history. While deployed to the Middle East, I oversaw eight nuclear reactors and was responsible for training all 700 nuclear operators onboard our aircraft carrier.

I spent the next 20 years serving on combatant ships defending American security, from the Indian Ocean to the Sea of Japan to the Arabian Gulf.

When I retired from the Navy in 2017, I was ready to focus on being a mom and keeping my small business, the Mermaid Factory, successful.

Still, I couldn’t shake the desire to do more for my community and my country. I couldn't sit idly by while politicians fanned the flames of division, hate, and contempt for our fellow Americans.

So, in 2018, I ran for Congress. The odds were stacked against me, but thanks to my grassroots team, I won a narrow victory on Election Day. We did it again in 2020. I was even ranked one of the most effective freshmen members of the House!

Three days after I was sworn in to my second term in Congress, our Capitol was violently attacked. That’s when everything changed.

I stepped up to serve on the January 6th Committee and seek the truth for the American people.

Sure, I was in one of the most competitive House districts in the country, but the optics didn’t matter: it was a choice of patriotism over politics.

In response, Republican super PACs poured millions into this district to take me out. Now that I'm back on the ballot, they're prepared to spend even more to keep it that way.

I’ve dedicated my life to public service since I was 17 years old, and this week, the voters of Virginia’s 2nd District gave me the chance to serve again. I have no plans of stopping now; not at this crossroads for our country.

This will be one of the most competitive and expensive elections in the country. We can't let special interest groups and pro-Trump super PACs decide the outcome.

Winning this seat back will take a fully-funded, formidable campaign operation. My team and I just launched our General Election Victory Fund, and I’m determined to hit the ground running. Will you split a donation today to help power our campaign and win in November?
