Objectively, it was. And its strongest adherents—at least the ones who want to win elections—are now backtracking.
It’s not surprising that one of Zohran Mamdani’s first acts in office was to hire more cops. Public safety is popular. Undermining it is electoral poison. And Mamdani is not dumb.
But the leftist-moderate rift is certainly real. It may be muted now, with everyone focused on November, but expect that debate to go supernova once the presidential primary cycle gets underway.

For now, though, Democrats have bigger fish to fry.
Because, believe it or not, they are now slightly favored to win the Senate this November.
Democrats gain momentum in flipping the Senate
The fact that this is even remotely possible is mind-blowing. The path to a Democratic majority runs through solidly red states like Alaska, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Ohio, and Texas. In any normal political environment, that should make a Senate takeover nearly impossible.
But this isn’t a normal political environment.
Republicans really are that incompetent.
It isn’t just the manosphere bros abandoning them. Trump and his party have spent years building a coalition around grievance, resentment, and the promise that they alone could smash the system and make everything work again.
Now they have power.
And voters are getting to see what happens when these people actually try to use it.
