Dear John,
Restaurant workers and their families have been deeply impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. In the first few months of the pandemic countless workers were laid off or fired. DC, Maryland, and Virginia were woefully unprepared for the volume of unemployment claims. Now several months into an ongoing global pandemic many workers have lost or will soon lose their unemployment benefits without safe jobs to return to.
That is why DC Jobs with Justice is joining our comrades at the Restaurant Opportunity Center DC in calling for DC to center the health and livelihood of service workers as the city reopens.
Food Service Worker Rally for Justice
When: LABOR DAY - Monday, September 7th @ 1pm
Who: Food Service Workers + Allies
Where: Malcolm X Park (Joan of Arc Statue)
RSVP
ROC members are demanding fair and equitable working conditions and support for all unemployed workers during this time and demand for Mayor Bowser to seriously review the threats to safety, financial security and equity for workers in restaurants during this pandemic.
We hope that you join us at the rally!
In solidarity,
Nikko Bilitza
