Hi Friend,
Fifty-five years ago today, President Lyndon Johnson signed the Wilderness Act and the Land and Water Conservation Act of 1964. The former established millions of acres of federal land as protected wilderness, and the latter created the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), America's most important conservation program. Here in Nevada, we're home to over 70 wilderness areas throughout the state, and over five and a half decades, have received over $100 million in federal dollars through the LWCF to maintain many of your favorite natural landmarks and outdoor recreation spaces in Nevada.
Help us celebrate the LWCF turning fifty-five by signing our petition to save the program from budget cuts by calling on Congress to permanently fund the program. Add your name to make sure our public lands are preserved for generations to come!
In addition, join us for a Yucca Mountain Panel this Thursday, September 5th, at the East Las Vegas Community Center at 6:00PM. Our Executive Director, Annette Magnus, will be on a panel with Congresswoman Dina Titus, the Nevada Conservation League, and the Center for Biological Diversity to discuss the social and economic impacts of the project.
Finally, be sure to RSVP for the 2019 Public Lands Day celebration happening Saturday, September 28th at Mountain's Edge Regional Park, from 10:00AM to 1:00PM. There will be free food and outdoor fun for all ages!
Thanks for your help, and we hope you can make it to these events!
