John,

There are two ways to look at a natural disaster like the kind of hurricane that's threatening the Southeast coast right now.

One is simple: a human tragedy that deserves our thoughts, prayers, and all our resources when it comes time to rebuild.

The other way is...well, it's hard to acknowledge, because frankly, it's callous. But it's also undeniable, and it deeply shapes the way we build and govern our world: A major disaster is great news for the national GDP.

Today, our president, Chuck Marohn, is grappling with the upsetting fact that we've somehow built an economy where an unthinkable storm that threatens a city is great economic news for the country at large.

And then he grapples with an even tougher question: what would it take to build a country where thriving cities were our top national priority?

And here's one more tough question: how can you help? Give Chuck's article a read and let us know one, small thing you can do to make your city a little stronger today.
