Dear John,

[ [link removed] ]It's time for Congress
to take action on gun
control

The statistics are chilling. There have been 38,000 incidents of gun
violence in 2019, with 20,000 people injured and 10,000 people killed.^1

Trump's white supremacy fuels far too much of this violence, but we can't
blame it all on Trump when we have a Congress full of politicians too
afraid to act.

Congress comes back into session next week after a recess filled with mass
shootings and daily acts of gun violence. Every single member needs to get
the message loud and clear that their constituents expect them to act.

laws to help stop gun violence. Click here to sign the petition.

Tragic mass shootings have become all too common – and they're getting
deadlier. Since the fall of 2017, we have had four of the 10 deadliest
mass shootings in modern U.S. history.^2 And while these mass shootings
receive more media attention, we cannot forget the gun violence that
strikes people, families and communities across the country on a daily
basis.

Earlier this year, after a gunman shot and killed 50 people at two New
Zealand mosques, it took lawmakers just three days to pass legislation
banning assault weapons and high capacity magazines.

Republicans are mainly to blame for keeping gun control from becoming law
and exacerbating the growing crisis of white supremacist terror, but we
cannot let either party off the hook. In August, 48 House Democrats sent a
letter to Speaker Pelosi demanding that she bring them back into session
to address the gun violence crisis and pass a ban on assault weapons and
high capacity magazines.^3 She did not listen.

Speaker Pelosi has a responsibility to show that Democrats are willing to
take bold action to keep us safe while Republicans hide in fear of the
racist NRA. We have to demand she lead and make sure every Democrat in
Congress knows what we expect. And we have to keep putting Republicans on
notice too. Every Republican, and especially #MassacreMitch McConnell,
needs to hear from constituents demanding an end to politics as usual when
it comes to gun violence.

We'll deliver your petitions to Pelosi and McConnell's local offices in
San Francisco and northern Kentucky this week, and to every member of
Congress when they get back to Washington. The more people who sign, the
greater our pressure will be. Can you add your name?
