Regenerating Paradise - Center for Food Safety

Dear Friend,

Imagine a balanced food system: one which feeds and sustains us while building our health and resilience.

Imagine a secure food system: one where everything that we need is not flown in, but grown locally.

Imagine a just food system: one that sustains cultures and uplifts the deeply rooted relationships that people have with their communities through food traditions.

We want to share this mini-series Regenerating Paradise, from our friends at the Center for Food Safety, about the powerful women creating and restoring a thriving and balanced food system on the Hawaiian Islands.

Regenerating Paradise Season 2 showcases food heroes of Hawai’i that the whole world can learn from.

These videos demonstrate the powerful opportunities that healthy local food systems can offer.

Hawaiʻi’s food system is in the midst of an economic and cultural renaissance. Led by small-scale producers, local composting initiatives, community supported projects to preserve traditional Hawaiian foods, and statewide farm-to-school and cafeteria pilot programs; consumers and producers are working together to transform what it means to eat like a local in Hawaiʻi and beyond.

These groundbreaking initiatives in Hawaiʻi are showing the rest of the country how circular, regenerative, and local food systems can simultaneously support the economy, strengthen cultural heritage, and improve the overall health of a community.

Our friends at Hawaiʻi Center for Food Safety (HCFS) produced and released a four-part video series Regenerating Paradise in 2018 and 2019 to educate the public about how healthy soil can mitigate climate change.

Regenerating Paradise Season 2 shows how they are reconnecting the health of the land with Hawai’i’s public health as well as community resilience.
