Dear Friend,
Thank you. Since I last wrote, supporters have given €12,680.40 towards our €30,000 target before the Dáil returns in September.
Almost half way there. Thank you.

I want to tell you why this matters, in the words of someone who lived it.
** Three years ago, Aoife* almost had an abortion.

She went to the first appointment. Her GP told her she would have to wait three days, and that he would give her the pills after that. He did not offer her an ultrasound but she accessed one elsewhere.
Then came the three days.
She talked to her family. They told her they would support her no matter what. She thought about how little she had actually been told, how her GP had offered abortion as though it were nothing unusual and said people do it all the time, how nobody had explained what actually happens or how it might sit with her for the rest of her life.
She cancelled a few hours before her second appointment to receive the abortion pills.
Her son Liam* is now nearly three.
In her own words: "Cancelling that appointment was the best decision of my life. I can't imagine my life without my son and I am really grateful for the 3 day waiting period, otherwise I know that I would have gone through with the abortion."
Aoife is not a public person and has no interest in becoming one. But she got in touch with us, and she has agreed to have her story put in front of TDs and Senators, because she does not want the decision she was given taken away from other women.
*Names and some details have been changed to protect her privacy.
Women like Aoife have told us how finding out about an unplanned pregnancy has left them alone, confused, afraid, overwhelmed or in shock. At this vulnerable point, too many women are being offered abortion as a quick fix, instead of the support they need and deserve.
The three day waiting period saved Liam’s life. That’s a huge impact in itself - even before we remember it has saved the lives of thousands more children as well.
This is exactly what the Dáil will not hear unless we bring it there.
