Dear friends, Tragedy struck our nation again last month in El Paso, Texas; Dayton, Ohio; and Gilroy, California. And just this weekend, another act of violence took the lives of seven around Odessa and Midland, Texas. Stand with Parkland – The National Association of Families for Safe Schools is crestfallen by the latest mass shootings and determined to help prevent the next one. Our founding families know that the status quo is unacceptable or our loved ones would still be here with us. We urge Congress to swiftly enact stronger background checks for firearms purchases and “red flag” laws that enable law enforcement and families to work together to temporarily restrict access to firearms by individuals deemed to be at serious risk of harming themselves and others. However, changing firearms laws will not be enough. Read our op-ed in Newsweek for more: As students and staff head back to school, Stand with Parkland families are continuing our mission to help make America's schools safer for students and staff. The Marjory Stoneman Douglas Public Safety Commission met again in August, and we want to thank Rep. Ted Deutch for hosting a press conference ahead of the meeting to raise awareness about this critical issue. We hope that you will consider honoring the lives lost by wearing your support of Stand with Parkland proudly. Show others you support making schools across America safer for students and teachers. Proceeds will go directly back into our work fighting for school safety. Shop t-shirts, sweatshirts, and tanks in our store! While we’re hard at work advocating for policy and pushing forward real change in states and school districts, we’re also fundraising to support this work. All our best, -- the Parkland families
