John, this is an emergency situation, and I don’t say that lightly.

Yesterday Missouri Senate Republicans voted to pass their racist, sexist attack to undermine democratically elected St. Louis County Prosecutor Kim Gardner.

Now it’s before the State House. We need all hands on deck to stop it.

This law is so blatant, it only applies to Kim’s jurisdiction. It is the single most dangerous, racist, sexist legislative attack we have encountered against our work.

This law would let the Governor directly undermine elected St. Louis County Prosecutor Kim Gardner’s ability to bring justice and police accountability.

Kim Gardner IS St. Louis’s Circuit Attorney. With the help of Real Justice supporters across the country, she won reelection with over 60% of the vote because the people stand with her platform. But Missouri Republicans wasted no time in their attempts to weaken the power of her office. This is how much they hate her.

I have to tell you, John, this is so infuriating because it is not only an attempt to block the reforms for justice that Kim is bringing to the office, it’s also a dangerous precedent to weaken the democratic power of the people of Missouri, and people everywhere.

If this is approved, this will serve as a model for anti-democratic leaders across the nation to maintain their racist systems of prosecution, mass incarceration, and police brutality.
