John,

It has been over two months since Senators Kamala Harris and Cory Booker
introduced the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. The legislation
passed the House on June 25, but Mitch McConnell has let it sit on his
desk collecting dust ever since.

Now, in the wake of the shooting of Jacob Blake by police officers in
Kenosha, Wisconsin and continued police violence against Black Americans
across the country, the calls for action are growing louder -- and so is
the pressure on Mitch McConnell.

Everyone from the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens to NBA players and coaches are
joining the call for McConnell to bring this bill to a vote. Now, we’re
calling on you to join this call too:

The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act is an important step forward in
re-imagining public safety and holding police accountable across the
country. We must take this important step right now to prevent another
George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, or Jacob Blake from being killed or severely
injured by law enforcement.

The bill would set a national standard for use of force by police
officers, ban “no-knock” warrants in federal drug cases and the use of
chokeholds, and limit the transfer of military equipment to police
departments.

It would also expand the Department of Justice’s ability to investigate
police departments for misconduct and establish a national police
misconduct database.

Mitch McConnell bring the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act to the

There is so much more we can and should do to change public safety in this
country. It starts by pushing for real reforms to a system that is broken
and is costing real lives. Black Americans in our country just want to
live-- a basic human right-- and we should fight together to ensure that
they will.

Thank you for raising your voice to demand change today,

— Yvette
