Democrat,
When we think about all the reasons why we love living in New Jersey, the list can get pretty long. Whether it’s the shore, the pizza and the bagels or the great towns and cities, it can be hard to keep track sometimes of our favorites. But one other factor is always a constant reason why people want to raise their families in New Jersey, and it’s something Governor Phil Murphy has been laser focused on since he took office -- our excellent public schools.
This week, New Jersey’s public schools were once again ranked as the best in the nation by Education Week. This follows last year’s breakthrough ranking when our state overtook the competition and grabbed the top spot.

Making sure our public schools have the state funding they need has been among Governor Murphy’s highest priorities. Working with the state legislature, the Governor has increased school funding over the last three years, while also providing increased funding for Pre-K programs and for improving school facilities. This comes after eight years of funding cuts and teachers being demonized by Chris Christie, and it couldn’t be a more welcome change for New Jersey.
With the new school year approaching, many parents are feeling uneasy about juggling remote learning, or about their children returning to school either part time or full time. Teachers and staff are also facing tremendous challenges. But it’s comforting to know that even with the complications posed by COVID-19, thanks to hardworking students and educators along with the support of Governor Murphy, our public schools are truly second to none and are well equipped to navigate this crisis and continue giving our children the education they deserve.
