** The UK Ivory Act is over the final hurdle! ([link removed])

The UK Ivory Act overcame its final obstacle when the Supreme Court refused to allow an appeal against an earlier Court of Appeal decision. The Act was introduced after EIA revealed in 2017 that the UK was the world’s leading exporter of antique ivory, particularly to illegal trade hotspots China and Hong Kong. Despite being passed in 2018 with overwhelming popular support and cross-party Parliamentary backing, the Act has been challenged at every opportunity by a small group of antiques traders.

** US urged to sanction China for pangolin trade ([link removed])

EIA and two partners have filed a legal petition calling on the US to formally sanction China for its illegal trade in critically endangered pangolins. If the move is successful, it would allow action against China, including banning wildlife imports.

Despite some welcome good news on Global Tiger Day this year, such as increases in wild tiger numbers in South Asia, we took the opportunity to issue a reminder that tigers continue to be seriously threatened by the illegal trade in their body parts.
