Here’s a fun fact: today is National Poll Worker Recruitment Day!
In other words, it’s the perfect opportunity to sign up to be a poll worker for the November elections. And our friends at Power the Polls are standing by with all the information you need.
Let’s face it: poll workers are heroes. They keep our elections running smoothly. They keep the process fair and efficient. And they help make sure everyone can cast their ballot and have it counted.
But if a local elections office can’t find enough people who are able to serve, they might need to shut down voting locations, and voters might face longer lines at the ones that stay open.
A study found that poll worker shortages contributed to longer lines for voters, with longer lines in precincts that had more people of color.
To help close any gaps this year, we’ve launched an aggressive poll worker recruitment campaign alongside Power the Polls, a nonpartisan initiative which has driven over a million sign-ups and supported election administrators in thousands of precincts since its founding in 2020.
People who’ve gotten involved through this organization have had overwhelmingly positive things to say:
- 95% said they had a satisfying experience.
- 88% said they’d be interested in serving again.
- 85% said that their local poll worker training left them feeling prepared to get the job done.
Interested? Sign up here with Power the Polls, and help deliver smooth, accessible elections where every voice gets heard.
