BREAKING NEWS: We’re Taking Trump to Court

Today, the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) and three other nonprofit organizations filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration over its attempt to silence and punish people working to defend the rights of Palestinians and other victims of war crimes.

I know you've heard about a lot of court cases lately, and they can sometimes be hard to follow. Here’s why this one matters:

The United States government today doesn’t like it when people speak out against injustice, especially when it comes to the ceaseless violence in Gaza. So they want to punish those who do—and prevent organizations like AFSC from advocating for human rights.

This is against everything we stand for as a Quaker organization – and a dangerous affront to our constitutional rights and our religious freedoms.

So we are going to court to stop it.

You may have missed it, but last year President Trump issued an executive order sanctioning individuals affiliated with the International Criminal Court. The Trump administration has also used those sanctions to punish Palestinian human rights organizations and others seeking justice for victims of genocide and war crimes.

The order threatens severe penalties for people and organizations in the U.S. that work with sanctioned groups. AFSC is one of those organizations. We collaborate with human rights groups all over the world, including in Palestine, where so many lives and communities have been destroyed. Because this work is rooted in our Quaker faith, efforts to stop it threaten our ability to uphold the dignity of every person, stand with those who are vulnerable, and faithfully live our beliefs in the world.
