Before I was a candidate for Texas Senate District 9, I was a girl watching my parents work hard just to make ends meet.


My dad started out driving a truck. He later became a municipal police officer and eventually joined the U.S. Army and ultimately retired from a tire building plant. My mom worked in a children’s home and then an insurance office, doing what needed to be done to keep the family afloat. It wasn't an easy road, and when my parents' marriage ended, my mom and I had to figure out how to make it work, just the two of us.


While still in high school, I worked to buy the groceries, while my single mom covered rent and utilities. There was no safety net, no shortcuts, just the daily work of showing up, working hard and leaning on my faith and the Lord’s strength to get through.


That same grit carried me through college. I worked to pay my way through school, becoming the first person in my family to earn a college degree. I went on to complete my bachelor’s degree and later my master’s degree, all while working full-time. Proof that hard work and determination can open doors no one in my family had walked through before.


That upbringing shaped everything that came next: a career in television news, service on congressional campaigns, corporate communications, building my own real estate business while raising my family, and years of community volunteerism, all before stepping up to run for office.


I never forgot where I came from. Having known what it's like to go without, I carry an authentic, personal understanding of what it means to struggle, and that understanding fuels my heart for those who are still fighting to get by. It's why service to others has never been an afterthought for me, but a calling.


For years, I have poured that calling into my community. I’ve led fundraising efforts that bring food and shelter to families in crisis, given my time to a ministry that walks alongside women facing the hardest decisions of their lives, and now serve on a board that feeds thousands of people every single month right here in Tarrant County. I’ve tried to show up, not just once, but year after year.


I know what it means to struggle, to sacrifice, and to work hard for every opportunity. I didn’t inherit my success, I built it, one job, and one hard-earned lesson at a time, with the Lord’s strength to get me through.


That’s the kind of common-sense, hard-working, grounded leadership Texas Senate District 9 needs in Austin. I’ll bring that same fight to defending Texas families, protecting our constitutional liberties, and holding government accountable. Texas won’t stay free by accident, it takes people willing to fight for it, who aren’t afraid of hard work.
