September 2020 virtual public hearing on proposed regulatory amendments

WorkSafeBC is holding a public hearing on proposed amendments to Parts 6, 8, 16, 18, and 21 of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation. In light of the ongoing and rapidly evolving COVID-19 pandemic, the public hearing will be held virtually to ensure social distancing.

The virtual public hearing will be streamed live on September 30, 2020, in two sessions. The first will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the second will be from 3 to 5 p.m.

Participating in the public hearing process

We welcome your feedback on the proposed amendments. All feedback received will be presented to WorkSafeBC’s Board of Directors for its consideration.

You can provide feedback in the following ways:

1. Submit feedback online or by email: Written submissions can be made online until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2020, via the amendment packages on worksafebc.com or by email to [email protected].

2. Register to speak at the hearing by telephone: To register, please call 604.232.7744 or toll free in B.C. at 1.866.614.7744. One presentation from an organization or individual will be permitted. If you aren’t able to register and would like to provide feedback, please watch the hearing as there will be an opportunity for you to call in after the pre-registered speakers have spoken.

3. Submit a pre-recorded video: Pre-recorded video submissions of up to 5 minutes long can be submitted and will be played at the public hearing. If you’re submitting a video, please call 604.232.7744 or toll free in B.C. at 1.866.614.7744 for instructions.

Net Zero Renovator Training Pilot Dates Announced
CHBA
Guided by the Net Zero Reno Working Group, the Net Zero Home Labelling Program requirements have been modified for application to renovations. These modified Program Requirements are now being trialed via a Pilot. CHBA National is now accepting up to 20 Pilot Home applications until February 2021 — and they've already approved the first one! In March 2021 they will review the results of the Pilot and make any necessary revisions to be able to launch their official Net Zero Home Labelling Program for Renovations.

To become a CHBA Qualified Net Zero Renovator under the Pilot, renovator members must successfully complete the required training and qualification requirements by March 31st, 2021. Renovators who aren’t participating in the pilot can also attend the training.

All CHBA Builder/Renovator Members who successfully complete the Net Zero Renovator Training will be added to the CHBA Net Zero directory at www.NetZeroHome.com and will also be listed on www.NetZeroRenos.com.

Framework gives renters until July 2021 to repay arrears
BC Gov News
Details on the new repayment framework for renters with outstanding rent from April to August 2020 are available on the Residential Tenancy Branch (RTB) website, with the moratorium on evictions for non-payment of rent ending ahead of Sept. 1.

As announced on July 16, renters will be expected to pay rent in full on Sept. 1, 2020, as the moratorium on evictions for non-payment of rent will end on Aug. 18. Renters in arrears from rent due during the specified period of March 18 to Aug. 17 will have until at least July 2021 to pay back any rent they owe, with the first repayments not starting until October at the earliest.
