New Initiative: States Stand Up to ICE

SiX Action unveiled a nationwide initiative to hold ICE agents accountable for constitutional violations. The announcement was made at a press conference in Chicago, where state legislators, including Colorado State Senator Mike Weissman, Illinois State Senator Graciela Guzman, Minnesota State Senator Omar Fateh, Utah State Senator Luz Escamilla, and Maryland Delegate Ashanti Martinez, announced their efforts to introduce or re-introduce legislation allowing Americans to sue ICE agents for the havoc they wreak on communities. Over 400 State Legislators Across 50 States and Guam Ask Fifth Circuit to Preserve Access to Abortion Care

438 state legislators from all 50 states and Guam signed onto SiX’s amicus brief in support of preserving access to mifepristone in Louisiana v. FDA, urging the Fifth Circuit to protect access to the most common method of abortion care in the U.S.

This sends an important message: state lawmakers and their constituents have had enough with junk science and political threats dictating what happens to our bodies.

State Response to Federal School Voucher Program

Trump’s Big Ugly Bill also created the first nationwide, federally funded school voucher program. States are not obligated to participate in this program, which is scheduled to begin in 2027. In fact, governors or other designated agencies must decide annually whether to allow federally funded vouchers to be handed out in their states.

Equipping Legislators to Back Independent Farmers

SiX's Food, Agriculture and Rural Economies Program has served as System Change Advisor for the Low Overhead Dairy Transition Project, a Wallace Center effort hosted by Winrock International, helping dairy families cut costs by transitioning to pasture-based systems.

We develop state policy tools supporting confinement dairies through this shift and equip legislators and partners to back independent farmers. Focused initially on Michigan and New York, our recommendations are built to adapt to any state.

Stay tuned as we continue developing tools and resources to support conventional dairies across the country in making this transition.
