Over the past year, we've witnessed both extraordinary challenges and extraordinary community leadership.
Since August 2025, Headwaters Foundation for Justice's Rapid Response Fund has:<[link removed]>
Received more than 500 inquiries and reviewed 183 applications from organizations across Minnesota.
Awarded $874,000 to 36 organizations leading responsive, community-based organizing.
Supported many new partners, with more than half of grants going to organizations receiving their first Headwaters grant.
As we prepare for a new year of grantmaking, we're excited to share that the Rapid Response Fund reopens on August 24, 2026.
This year, we're making several important updates:
We expect to award at least $800,000 over eight grant cycles between August 2026 and June 2027.
Each grant will be $15,000 in general operating support, allowing us to support more organizations throughout the year.
Grant decisions will now be made by our inaugural Community Grantmaking Committee, a group of community members who will receive training in our community-led grantmaking model and select more than 50 grantees across the year.
The Rapid Response Fund continues to support organizations responding to new, unexpected, or rapidly evolving legislative, policy, and political developments. The application process remains intentionally simple and fast, with approved organizations receiving funding within 30 days of each application deadline.
