Barbie’s story shows us why this matters more than ever.
When Barbie was 14 years old, she borrowed her aunt’s phone to take photos at the beach with her cousins. She trusted those photos would simply be shared and deleted. Instead, her aunt saved them and used them to draw paying customers into Barbie’s online exploitation.
After IJM learned about Barbie’s aunt’s illegal online activities, our team worked with the Philippine authorities to investigate. Two years later, they arrested Barbie’s aunt and brought Barbie to a safe shelter.
