The gates officially open for another Iowa State Fair on August 13th, and I couldn’t be more excited. Last year's Iowa State Fair was one of the highlights of my summer, and I'm looking forward to being back again this year for what I truly believe is the best state fair in the country! The Iowa State Fair is one of the greatest celebrations of everything that makes Iowa special. I can't wait to meet folks from across our great state, support our hardworking farmers, enjoy some incredible fair food, see the livestock shows, visit the agriculture exhibits, take in the famous butter cow, browse the countless displays from talented Iowa artists and craftsmen, experience the live music, entertainment, and family activities, and, of course, take a ride down the giant slide! There truly is something for everyone. One of my favorite parts of the Iowa State Fair is visiting the many booths and talking with the people who make this event so special. Whether it's local businesses, community organizations, farmers, or exhibitors, every booth tells a story about Iowa's innovation, hard work, and strong communities. I especially enjoy seeing the next generation of Iowa's agricultural leaders in action through 4-H and FFA. Watching young people showcase the animals they've raised and the skills they've worked so hard to develop reminds me that the future of Iowa agriculture is in great hands. Of course, no trip to the fair would be complete without trying some of Iowa's incredible fair food. Last year's Best New Food winner, Winn & Sara's Kitchen's Bacon Chicken Ranch Egg Roll, absolutely lived up to the hype. I tried it myself and loved it! Winn & Sara's Kitchen made history as the first vendor to win the Iowa State Fair's Best New Food award two years in a row. It's even more exciting knowing their Indianola location is right here in Iowa's First District. I can't wait to see what they come up with this year, and I'm looking forward to trying all the different food trucks and new fair favorites. Above all, my favorite part of the Iowa State Fair is the opportunity to meet so many amazing people from Iowa’s first district and every corner of our state. The Iowa State Fair is one of the best traditions our state has to offer, and I'm excited for another unforgettable year at the fair! I’ll see you there! Representing Iowa's First District I kicked off my second annual Made in America Manufacturing Tour! First stop: Wilton Precision Steel, where I toured their steel processing operations and talked with the skilled workers and leadership driving their growth. Manufacturing keeps Iowa’s economy strong, and Wilton’s workforce is proof that no one builds it better than Iowans. Proud to have companies like this right here in our district. Second stop on my second annual Made in America Manufacturing Tour: Gerdau, which employs 240 Iowans! Great to meet with their team and hear directly from the people doing the work. We talked about how pro-growth policies I fought for, like No Tax on Overtime, are already making a difference, with workers putting in more overtime hours since it passed. Real relief, real results for Iowa workers. Impressive to see their commitment to clean steel too, 96% recycled scrap and 97% of water reused. Third stop on my second annual Made in America Manufacturing Tour: SSAB in Muscatine County! Great to spend time with the people who help build Iowa. Their team shared news on new investments and plant developments, with steel utilization rates above 80%. As a member of the Steel Caucus, I am proud to back pro-manufacturing policies like the Working Families Tax Cuts that help make growth like this possible. Took questions from employees on everything from energy to where manufacturing is headed next. Great conversation all around. Fourth and final stop of my second annual Made in America Manufacturing Tour: Clow Valve Co. in Oskaloosa! This is American manufacturing done right: iron and brass poured right here in the U.S. in compliance with BABA standards, real investment in safer working conditions, and an apprenticeship program that partners with the local community college to train the next generation of Iowa workers. Four stops. Four Iowa manufacturers doing the hard work every single day. Proud to fight for the policies that let them keep doing it right here at home. Had an incredible visit touring Hand In Hand’s facilities and learning more about the life-changing work they do to support individuals with disabilities. We discussed the importance of specialized care for children, strengthening the continuum of care into adulthood, and ensuring Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) remain available so individuals can live, work, and thrive in their communities. Thank you for all you do to make a difference for Iowa families! As a 24-year Army veteran, I was honored to attend the Relinquishment of Command and Retirement Ceremony for Lt. Gen. Mark Landes at Quarters One, Rock Island Arsenal. The command colors were temporarily passed to General Joseph A. Ryan. Congratulations to West Point graduate General Landes on an extraordinary career of service to Rock Island Arsenal, First Army, and our nation. Best wishes to him and his family in retirement. What a joyous day in West Branch! Attended the grand reopening of the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum, honoring the life and legacy of the only president born in Iowa. From humble beginnings, orphaned at just nine years old, to president and great humanitarian, it was wonderful seeing so many Iowans come out to celebrate this incredible piece of our history. Honored to hear from President Hoover’s great-grandchildren, Allan Hoover III and Margaret Hoover, who spoke so beautifully about their family’s legacy. Grateful to spend time on the Hinnah family farm, hogs, row crops, and a tree and timber service built through generations of hard work. We talked trade, the Farm Bill, year-round E15, and how the Working Families Tax Cuts, along with the death tax protections we passed, mean farms like theirs can be passed down to the next generation instead of handed over to the IRS. Thank you for welcoming me, Aaron. I’ll always stand with Iowa’s family farms. Visited the World's Best Cat Litter facility, right here in Muscatine! This facility turns Iowa and Midwest-grown corn into a naturally sustainable product, processing 5 to 6 million pounds of corn a month and employing lots of hardworking Iowans. Proud to see Iowa agriculture powering innovation like this. Great meeting with Mount Pleasant leadership, including new City Administrator Joe Taylor, Mayor Steven Brimhall, and the Chamber’s Rachel Lindeen. Talked manufacturing growth with the Walmart distribution center bringing new jobs and training to the area, plus how my 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act is helping drive housing development and keep Wall Street from buying up Iowa neighborhoods. Great discussion on the issues shaping Henry County’s future. Enjoyed attending the 2026 Access Energy Cooperative Annual Meeting in Mt. Pleasant. It was great hearing from the members and community leaders who keep this co-op running strong, and talking through where much needed permitting reform stands in Congress. Stopped by Davenport Guns & Shooting Club to celebrate Shooting Sports Month with owner Jeanelle Westrom! Talked ATF policy, youth shooting sports, and gun safety with local constituents, and reaffirmed my unwavering support for the 2nd Amendment. Here to Help You As always, my office is here to help.
