Hello, True Texans!

What a week!  If you've followed me on Facebook, you know what I'm talking about.  First we had our huge conference, then we had a family funeral, and then Fred and I started on rehabbing a hoarder house.  Never a dull moment!

I mention that because something very special happened in the midst of it all.  Several True Texan friends saw my post about the funeral... 

and they showed up. 

I was stunned!  They didn't know my sister, and they certainly didn't know her husband who passed away.  But they came for me, my mom, and our family, just because they love us.  It meant the world.  Why?  Because, well, my sister and I aren't exactly close, and there's some family tension at these kinds of gatherings.  Instead of feeling ostracized and awkward, I walked into a room full of my True Texas family.  What a blessing!  

I say it all the time: 

You can hear great speakers online from the comfort of your own home, but if you skip TTP meetings, you miss out on the community.  

I had an acquaintance say recently, "I wish I had the community support you have.  I need a friend group."  Of course you do!  We all do!  And at True Texas Project, it's available to anyone who will show up.  I challenge you to go to a local meeting and report back if you are not warmly greeted, maybe even hugged, and invited to a social event or additional gathering.  And when you are invited, go!  Or sign up for the leadership team.  All of them are looking for help.  Get plugged in, and reap the rewards.

To prove my point that this family is available to everyone, not just me, here's what a gal in Tarrant County wrote to me after the funeral:

Julie – though I was unable to come to the funeral, I have felt much for you and your family in the loss of your sister's husband. I just want to share that True Texas Project has been more of a family feel than I realized. My heart has ached so much over many issues of the day that I wanted to be a part of some political organization that could make a difference. True Texas Project filled that need AND provided the "family feel"! The many extracurricular activities that you provide help with that aside from all you do for the core work of TTP. So in this time of family grief, I do want to say thank you.

That's what I'm talking about!  We are a family, and we are making a difference not just politically, but in quality of life.  I love this so much.  YOU did this.  Thank you!

Conference Feedback

I got a really cool note from one of our conference participants.  State Representative Richard Hayes played in our Family Feud game, but he also attended many of the sessions the conference offered.  He wrote this:

Julie, I wanted to personally tell you what an excellent event last Saturday was. Fantastic speakers. Great information. Very educational. I took away much I can use in the upcoming Session. Thank you for including me. And thank you for all you and TPP do.

Yes!  Did you catch that one line:  "I took away much I can use in the upcoming Session."  Woohoo!  That's exactly what we want.  I love a Representative who listens and learns and does not pretend to have all the answers already.  This is greatness on so many levels.

  Line Dance Lessons in Tarrant County - this is literally my favorite day of the week for this reason.  Join us if you can!
