Maryland’s First District is a ridiculously beautiful place.
Between the bay, the rivers, the farms, the small towns, and the Eastern Shore – we’ve got parts of this district that make the rest of Maryland look at us and go, “Okay, yeah, you win.”
Well, I’d like to keep it that way, and that’s why I’m proud to have the Sierra Club’s endorsement, and why protecting this district is going to be a real priority for me in Congress.
Congressman Andy Harris has priorities, too.
But unfortunately, his idea of environmental stewardship seems to be making sure Exxon’s quarterly earnings stay nice and fat for shareholders.
Harris has taken more than $170,000 from fossil-fuel PACs over his career, including PACs tied to Koch, ExxonMobil, Marathon Petroleum, the National Mining Association, and Halliburton.
And wouldn’t you know it, he keeps voting to weaken environmental protections, expand drilling, boost coal, and generally make life easier for the companies cutting those checks.
I want to keep MD-01 beautiful, and Rep. Harris wants to keep corporate profits beautiful.
And while those companies count their money, the rest of us are the ones who get stuck worrying about what happens to our water, our farms, the Chesapeake Bay, and the communities we’re supposed to hand down to our kids.
I’m running because this district deserves somebody who treats the Eastern Shore like home, not like a corporate extraction site with a congressional district number slapped on it.
If you’re with me, chip in $15 or whatever you can afford today and help us send Andy Harris and his fossil-fuel buddies packing.
