John,
What a huge week for our progressive movement! I felt so much hope, joy, and energy in the air this week, and I owe it all to this grassroots team for getting our campaign across the finish line.
I won my primary in Seattle with 84% of the vote, and I want you to know this win belongs to all of us. Every volunteer, every organizer, every person who showed up and fought right alongside me. You showed what it looks like when people come together to stand up for their communities. Not corporations, no special interests, just the people.
In Washington state and beyond, the people chose fighters to protect and defend their communities up and down the ballot.
Congratulations to Liz Berry, Jaelyn Scott (who won the primary for my old State Senate seat, and I couldn’t be prouder!), Gerry Pollet, Darya Farivar, Colleen Melody, Ian Birk, Teresa Mosqueda, and Jorge Barón here in Washington. And congratulations to Abdul El-Sayed and Will Lawrence in Michigan, and Tom Perillo in Virginia!
Each of these leaders ran campaigns grounded in the same values we fight for every single day: Medicare for all, standing up to corporate power, and making sure working families have a real voice in the halls of power. My Medicare For All PAC invested over $350,000 in Abdul’s race, all raised from small dollar contributions. Fuel from people, for the people, to take back the power from dark money special interest groups.
And that investment means our movement just got a lot stronger. All of these wins are the result of an organized, people-powered movement that refuses to give up.
And John, the stakes have never been higher than they are in this midterm cycle. We have a real shot at taking back the House and Senate this November. The energy is there. The momentum is here. And this week proved it. We’re going to flip seats across the country and put the issues facing working families front and center, where they always should’ve been — and we’re going to do it together.
I have never felt more hopeful about our fights ahead. But hope alone won’t move this work forward. We have to keep our foot on the gas between now and November.
