September 3, 2019: Within a year of giving birth, 63.5% of new moms return to the workforce. That total includes those who are searching for a new job.[1]
The Census Bureau reports that there are significant differences depending upon levels of education. “More than 4 out of 5 (81.9%) women with a graduate or professional degree who gave birth in the last 12 months were in the labor force.”
Among those with a bachelor’s degree but no graduate degree, 71.4% were in the workforce.
However, just 51.1% of new moms with a high school diploma or less had returned to the workforce.
