Friend,
As the number of living World War II veterans continues to decline, we have a responsibility to preserve their stories for future generations.
That's why I introduced bipartisan legislation to establish the Senator Robert J. Dole Greatest Generation Education Program, which would support educational efforts to teach the history, sacrifice, and legacy of the Americans who won World War II.
Named in honor of Kansas's own Senator Bob Dole - a combat-wounded World War II veteran and champion of the National World War II Memorial - the program would help ensure young Americans continue to learn the values of courage, service, and unity that defined the Greatest Generation.
I'm also pleased this legislation has been included in the House version of the National Defense Authorization Act, which recently passed the House. Their service secured our freedom, and preserving their legacy will help inspire the generations that follow.
