Tell us about yourself. My name is Maya and I just graduated from Easton Area High School. I’m taking a gap year before I head to Yale next fall! In high school I was heavily involved in band as a flutist, musical theatre as a student director, and on student council. I also volunteered for Susan’s campaign in 2018. I’ve lived in this district my whole life - Easton to be exact - but my parents are from Cameroon.
Why Susan? I support Susan because of her willingness to reach across the board to get policies put in place to help Pennsylvanians. I especially love her push to allocate more resources to technical schools and apprenticeship training as well as her emphasis on the importance of mental health care.
What is your role on the campaign? I’m a field organizer for the PA house districts 131, 135, 136. It’s my job to find enthusiastic volunteers and give them the resources they need to inform Pennsylvanians about Susan’s policies and the importance of voting this coming fall. I also coordinate heavily with other democratic leaders in my area.
What is your advice for volunteers? Because I volunteered in 2018 I am familiar with the anxiety that comes with talking to strangers and not knowing how they’ll react, but remember why you’re doing what you do: to elect great leaders that will do nothing but serve the best interests of Pennsylvanians, like Susan. Keep that idea in mind and know that your job is imperative for this, and every other, election.
