John,
Today, in Lancaster Newspapers's Editorial page, we saw another example of LNP's liberal bias, distorting and withholding facts. Their editorial is another attempt to cause hysteria in our community related to the United States Postal Service and push their biased agenda. They have purposely left out pieces of my statement to mislead their readers. You can view the full statement on my official U.S. House website.
Here are the facts the LNP Editorial Board left out:
* In Pennsylvania, the county boards of elections can begin sending mail-in ballots 50 days in advance of election day. Nationwide, during an average of 50 days, the USPS processes over 20 billion pieces of mail. Even if every single registered voter in the country (153 million) cast their ballots by mail, the volume attributable to mail-in ballot increase would be less than 0.8% over those 50 days.
* Postmaster General DeJoy, who took office in June, assured Congress in his testimony before the U.S. Senate that the USPS stands ready to ensure all election mail is delivered on time.
* The USPS has available cash liquidity to continue operations into August 2021. As part of the CARES Act, $10 billion in additional funding was made available to USPS.
* The USPS has lost $61 billion over the last ten years. For a good reason, operational changes at the USPS have been underway for years.
* Nancy Pelosi's proposal doesn't fix the long-term issues and financial stability of the post office. It only aims to through more money at the problems.
* This bill is nothing more than a political ploy to create doubt in the upcoming election's integrity.
On Monday, my campaign declined a debate hosted by LNP Media Group because we recognize they are no longer a fair and unbiased news source. While they claim to be investigative journalists and arbiters of truth who are the intellectual authority on political matters, they selected a debate date when I'll be in Washington D.C. for a voting session. The session calendar is publicly available.
I believe it is critical to highlight the differences between myself and my extreme liberal opponent. My campaign is working with other news outlets and organizations to schedule a debate with my opponent this fall. I will not participate in forums hosted by LNP. They are no longer a trusted news source for the readers of Lancaster County. The election results are clear: LNP's editorial opinions do not sway voters' and are out of touch with the people of our communities.
