The short answer is this: He’s a Big Oil and utility company lobbyist, Washington DC insider, friend to pedophiles, and MAGA loyalist who was cherry-picked by President Trump to chair the RNC and run for North Carolina’s must-win seat.
Whatley’s career paints a troubling picture: one filled with scandal and prejudice that somehow always comes back to Trump.
In case you didn’t already know, here are a few facts about Roy’s opponent, Michael Whatley:
Whatley has relentlessly pushed policies that have sent his stock portfolio soaring … while making gas, groceries, utilities and flood and health insurance more expensive for working families.
He called President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill a “huge win,” even though it could strip health care from hundreds of thousands North Carolinians and could shutter five rural hospitals.
He appointed a convicted child sex offender — someone who spent six years in prison and over 10 years on the sex offender list — to powerful positions of leadership when he was the Chair of the North Carolina GOP.
He’s a guy who has and will continue to put the interests of billionaires, his portfolio, and his well-connected friends over people like us.
While Whatley spent his career lining his pockets and sucking up to Trump, Roy Cooper has been working hard to serve the needs of North Carolinians. And he’s got the receipts to prove it.
As Governor, he worked with Republicans to expand Medicaid for over 730,000 people across the state, added hundreds of thousands of good paying jobs, boosted public education, invested in rural communities and so much more.
He stood up to Republicans when they tried to hurt the state and worked across the aisle when it would provide good for the people of North Carolina.
The stakes of this race could not be more clear. If Whatley wins in North Carolina, the GOP could keep control of the Senate until 2029, and far-right super PACs are investing nearly $100 million so far to make sure that happens. We need your help to stop them.
