Friends,
Don’t forget the 350 Fairfax general meeting on Thursday, September 5, at 7:30 pm! This is what’s on the agenda:
Learn: Our featured speaker will be Mike Ewall, founder and director of Energy Justice Network, a national support network for grassroots community groups fighting dirty energy and waste industry facilities, including incinerators of every sort. According to Mike, "When you throw trash 'away' in Fairfax County, it is burned at the Covanta Fairfax trash incinerator in Lorton—the county's largest air polluter by far. Lorton hosts two incinerators and three landfills and is a glaring case of environmental racism. In the wake of the massive fire in 2017, and the pending expiration of the county's waste contract with Covanta, now is the time to move the county toward climate-friendly, healthier, Zero Waste solutions and to end incineration for good."
Discuss: This month we’ll launch Earth Friendly Fairfax, a campaign to address all manner of waste generated by local restaurants. We’ll talk about how you can help us grow our network of Earth Friendly restaurants in Fairfax County and beyond.
We’ll also share final details for the 9/20 DC Climate Strike (including a downtown meetup point for several NOVA climate groups) and our Global Week of Action event the weekend of September 21–22.
Act: Commit to #StrikeWithUs on September 20 and sign up for the Plastic Free Challenge!
