The stage is set. Donald Trump and Joe Biden are officially the presidential nominees for the 2020 presidential election.
In the last two weeks Donald Trump and Joe Biden presented their election messages during the Republican National Convention and the Democratic National Convention - and the differences could not be more clear.
Two weeks ago, Joe Biden and the Democratic party presented a vision of hope and prosperity. A vision for the country where everyone, regardless of where they were born or what their immigration status is, belongs. The Democratic National Convention highlighted the beautiful diversity of our country and how immigrants play a key role in it. History was also made when Senator Kamala Harris from California accepted the vice presidential nomination. Kamala Harris is the first woman of color and daughter of immigrants to be chosen as a vice presidential candidate.

Meanwhile, last week Donald Trump presented a message of hate and division with blatant racism and xenophobia. Trump and speakers throughout the Republican National Convention celebrated their anti-immigrant policies and painted their authoritarian approach as a success story. It was all an effort to distract voters from their failure in handling the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the conventions may be over, the real work is just beginning.
It’s time to elect the right leader to do what is best for our immigrant family members and neighbors.
Deadlines to register to vote and request mail-in ballots (for those states that are eligible) are fast approaching. Make sure you don’t miss your chance to have your voice heard.
Voting is one of the most powerful things we can do to ensure that everyone in this country, regardless of immigration status, is treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. We must show up. We must represent. We must be a voice for those who cannot vote.

We must all continue to work together for the future that we want. A future where immigrants are celebrated, not torn down or used as political props. We must recognize and reward their endless contributions to our country.
