CHILD TRAFFICKING AND CONSPIRACY THEORIES
Recently, salacious rumors and viral conspiracy theories about sex trafficking have been dominating news headlines. In reality, sex trafficking in the U.S. is much less sensational than these ideas would lead you to believe. These theories skew what trafficking actually looks in the U.S. and perpetuate misconceptions about who is affected by this issue.
“This is not happening in some secret cabal. It’s happening in every single community," Lori Cohen, our Executive Director, told The New York Times in an article about the intersection of our work and these recent viral stories. “But it’s easier to focus on public figures than to think about the reality that trafficking is happening in our midst, among people we know, to children we know.”
