** Very troubling trend: Remote abortion consultations becoming routine, study finds
------------------------------------------------------------
Newly published research adds to the growing evidence about the use of remote consultations for women seeking abortions in Ireland and internationally.
The research published in the BMJ Sexual & Reproductive Health journal reports findings from a project collecting data on GP-provided abortions in Ireland. It includes initial information on how GPs use telemedicine during consultations with women seeking abortions.
19% of the GPs who participated in the research provided “fully remote consultations” for the first abortion consultation, and another 48% used a mixed model of remote and in-person meetings for the first of two consultations.

** Your story could help turn this debate around

The debate on removing the 3-day reflection period before abortion is reaching a crucial stage. Those pushing for its removal only want one viewpoint represented. This has got to change.
If you or someone you know is grateful for the time to reflect before choosing life, or has experienced abortion regret, your voice deserves to be heard.
Your experience could help shape this important discussion. Whether you wish to speak publicly or privately (with anonymity assured), we will support you and respect your wellbeing throughout.
If you feel comfortable sharing your experience, or would simply like to learn more, please send us a message. All conversations and correspondence will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.

** Baby Theo thriving after pioneering surgery in the womb
------------------------------------------------------------
At her 20-week scan, Maisie Savage from London was devastated to learn that her unborn baby had a rare condition (Gastroschisis) in which the intestines develop outside the abdomen. Babies with the condition often require weeks or months of intensive care after birth, and some do not survive.
But thanks to pioneering foetal surgery in Texas, her son Theo was born naturally at full term and, at five months old, is “thriving” - having started life as a “completely normal baby”.
At 26 weeks’ gestation, surgeons used keyhole techniques to move Theo’s intestines back inside his abdomen while he was still in the womb. Maisie then continued her pregnancy until his full-term birth.
