Hold a town hall

Doug Jones for Alabama

Folks,

The Senate closes for August today.

I don’t know precisely how Tommy Tuberville is planning to spend his vacation. Hopefully he’ll get a moment to tan at his home on the beach in Florida  after all his hard work in the Senate trying to take away Alabamians’ voting rights.

But if Tuberville or his team are taking suggestions for his schedule for the next few weeks, I’ve got one. Call it a suggestion or a challenge:

Hold a town hall.

Stand in front of ordinary Alabamians. Take unscripted questions. Listen to folks who you said were full of “bullcrap” who do not want your hyperscale data centers in their communities. Listen to folks who cannot afford groceries, who are watching rural hospitals close, who are worried about their schools, their power bills, their water, and whether their children can afford to build a life here.

To be honest, I don’t think Tuberville is going to take me up on my challenge. And I don’t think you do either.

Tuberville thinks this election is a done deal. He thinks he’s got more than enough money from his rich friends to buy it. It doesn’t cross his mind for a moment that, if he wants to govern Alabama, he might need to hear from ordinary Alabamians.

We can, and we will, win this race by bringing ordinary Alabamians together, no matter how much money he spends trying to tear our movement down.

Tuberville is counting on his wealthy donors and corporate backers to carry him across the finish line. We’re building this campaign the harder—and better—way: person by person, town by town, and grassroots contribution by grassroots contribution.

So if you’re able, can you make a contribution today to help us hold more town halls, bring more Alabamians into our movement, and stand up to Tommy Tuberville’s $8 million war chest?

Thank you,

Doug
