LILY TANG WILLIAMS BLASTS MAGGIE GOODLANDER'S LAST-MINUTE TAXPAYER-FUNDED MAILER AS DESPERATE POLITICAL STUNT

WEARE, N.H. — Congressional candidate Lily Tang Williams today condemned Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander for rushing a taxpayer-funded franked mailer into New Hampshire mailboxes just hours before the congressional franking blackout took effect, calling it a desperate attempt to salvage her political image after a first term defined by a lack of meaningful accomplishments. To note, the congressional franking blackout exists to prevent incumbents from using taxpayer-funded communications as free campaign advertising in the weeks leading up to an election, helping ensure a fair contest against challengers.


The mailer, paid for by taxpayers, also features an image from a solemn area containing the remains of our soldiers in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery—an inclusion Williams called deeply inappropriate and emblematic of Goodlander's willingness to use virtually anything to improve her political standing.


"Granite Staters can see exactly what's happening here," said Lily Tang Williams. "Just before the blackout period begins, Maggie Goodlander suddenly sends out a glossy taxpayer-funded mailer that looks remarkably like campaign literature. That's not confidence—it's desperation."


"After nearly two years in Congress without a signature legislative achievement to campaign on, Maggie Goodlander is trying to use taxpayer resources to rewrite her record before voters begin paying closer attention," Williams continued. "If she had delivered real results, she wouldn't need a taxpayer-funded public relations campaign at the eleventh hour."


Williams also criticized Goodlander's record of avoiding difficult decisions in Congress, pointing to her repeated "present" votes instead of taking clear positions on important issues.


"Too often, Maggie Goodlander has chosen to duck accountability rather than cast a clear vote on behalf of the people she represents," Williams said. "Now, instead of defending that record, she's spending taxpayer dollars trying to polish it.”
