Last week marked Women’s Equality Day, and given that women currently make up just 23% of Congress and 29% of state legislatures, Emerge’s work is critical in our continued fight for parity.

But politics isn’t the only place where women have been left behind — our alums are fighting to improve access and quality of health care for women at every level of government.

Emerge alums across the country are working to make health care more equitable, accessible, and affordable. If you agree that everyone should have access to quality health care add your name here.

We’re seeing women who work in health care fields stepping up to run and address these issues head-on. In Massachusetts, our alum State Representative Liz Miranda led the way on a bill studying the racial disparities in maternal health because our health care system has failed Black women and mothers for too long.

In Washington, Emerge alum and nurse Lori Feagan has stepped up to run because she’s seen firsthand how policy decisions impact their medical practice and their patients' experience.

And in Arizona, Dr. Hiral Tipirneni is running for Congress after serving her community as an emergency room physician, cancer research advocate, and supporting the county’s public health care delivery system for more than twenty years.

Right now the Trump administration is using the courts to dismantle access to affordable health care for millions of Americans, which means electing officials who both understand the obstacles and can create solutions for improving access to health care is more important than ever.
